But still, whenever my computer goes into rest/sleep mode, it eventually turns itself off. I was trying to open a new and speciallized thread, but am not able. Also I have not used a screen saver for many years now. Or you can use the old way of closing open apps with the keyboard short cut, press and hold the alt key and F4 key. The shut down will take longer when you have several apps still open even thou you did the grab and drag to the bottom or clicked on the red X at the upper right which supposedly closes them but does not fully. You can use that to close them by clicking one and then click on end task. You can check this out by starting the task manager and at the top group is a list of all the apps still open. What I have noticed is when you close apps on the start screen side that they are not fully closed. You can right click on it and select shut down from there also.
Also on the desktop in the lower left is the new Microsoft logo (start button). You can now shutdown, restart, and sleep from there. the way to know is on the start page you have the power button and the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the start screen. I think they are keeping it updated so you should have 8.1 update installed. I assume you downloaded 8.1 from the store.
